What you should take away

Minting stays single-gate, values stay fixed — the only thing published to the public chain is a hash digest: no coins, no transactions, no user data.
An independent timestamp — once the root is anchored, not even the operator can rewrite history before that point without it showing.
Auditors trust nobody — they recompute the root from a ledger copy and match it against the public anchor. Mathematics does the trusting.
An add-on, not a requirement — clients who don't need public verifiability run the standard permanent ledger.
